About
A writer interested in ordinary people under extraordinary pressure.
Craig L. DeLue was born in San Jose, California, and grew up in neighboring Sunnyvale when much of the Santa Clara Valley was still covered with apricot and cherry orchards. He graduated with honors from the University of California at Davis, attended Santa Clara University School of Law, and later earned an MBA from Notre Dame de Namur University.
After a career in senior management in the printing and financial services industries, he founded a consulting firm serving the long-term care insurance industry. When he returned to writing, it was with the same question that had followed him since childhood: how do people understand themselves, struggle against the circumstances that shape them, and find their own way forward?
His first novel, Brian Nine, grew out of a lifelong love of human-centered science fiction — ordinary people confronting extraordinary circumstances. His latest book, The Hidden Heartache, turns from fiction to a much more personal subject. Drawing on his own childhood experience with ADHD, including diagnosis and treatment beginning in the 1960s, the memoir examines the emotional consequences of growing up with a condition that was poorly understood at the time.
He also writes lyrics. After retiring, generative music tools gave him a way to turn those words into finished songs. The project is called Saber Jets. Craig brings the stories and the lyrics; the technology brings the music and the voices. The full songbooks live on the band site. Song Book I gathers ten of those songs with the explanations behind them.
